Our friends at the Oxford Flute Summer School (OFSS) look forward to welcoming individuals of all ages over 15 at their brand new venue in the heart of Oxford.
Since 1988, the world-class OFSS has welcomed those of all playing abilities, participants just need to love playing the flute, and they will be trained by a team that includes flutists such as Adam Walker, Sue Thomas, Robert Winn, and Kate Hill.
The OFSS had started in 1988 when two young teachers, Janet Way and Clive Conway, discussed starting a flute summer school in Oxford. At the time there were just a couple of other courses based around particular teachers where students would go to sit at the feet of the master and play only once during the week. They felt there was a need for a more active week when flautists could enjoy group playing and learn through participation. One of the important ideas was that this week should be for everyone, not just those with dizzying technical skills. They wanted to attract players who just loved the flute and music but were busy with their other lives for the rest of the year. This is still their guiding principle.
“One of the best weeks of my life!” - Oxford Player participant OFSS 2022
